Dates | Sept. 2/3 2016 |
Organizer(s) | Pro. Mark Goodale, UNIL |
Speakers | Sally Engle Merry, New York University Paul Merry, NYU |
Description | General Description:
This three-module program will give doctoral students the opportunity to study ethnographic methods with international experts, conduct a two-week training field school in Bolivia under the supervision of Professor Mark Goodale and Bolivian scholars, and have the opportunity to present research findings and receive both peer-to-peer feedback and advice from international anthropologists at the conclusion of the program.
The theme for the 3-part program is "Law, Ideology, and Social Change." However, students will be welcome from all subfields and regional interests. The theme is meant to track the ongoing research project of the lead professor (Goodale) who will use existing contacts and networks to guide students in their training program.
* For the final module, students will meet with UNIL professors and international experts for two days to present research findings, evaluate the program and consider lessons learned, and receive advice and suggestions from outside experts. The event will most likely be held in a small conference center in the Lausanne region in order to give the group two days of close collaboration, meals, and interaction. The outside expert who has been invited is Professor Sally Engle Merry from New York University.
