Organizer(s)

Prof. Lluís Fontboté (UNIGE)

Dr. Richard Slilitoe, London, UK

Description

Richard Sillitoe will share his unique experiences on porphyry copper deposits in this one-day short course. He will cover the main features on the architecture, alteration, and mineralization of these fascinating magmatic-hydrothermal systems that constitute the main source for copper to our society. The subtitle "on the whiteboard" indicates that Dr. Sillitoe will draw directly on the board, slides may be a complement. Because of this format, the course will favour intense interaction with the audience. Places are strictly limited. Richard Sillitoe graduated from London University where he went on to earn a Ph.D. degree in 1968. After three years with the Geological Survey of Chile and a Shell postdoctoral research fellowship at Imperial College London, he has operated as an independent consultant to mining companies, international agencies, and foreign governments for more than 40 years. He has worked on a wide variety of mineral deposits and prospects in nearly 100 countries
worldwide, but focuses on the epithermal gold and porphyry copper environments. Published research has earned him awards in Europe, Australia, and both North and South America, including the Silver and Penrose Gold Medals from the Society of Economic Geologists, of which he was President from 1999-2000.
