Description | Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) is becoming the platform of choice for the identification of bacteria in clinical laboratories throughout much of Europe. It is also considered as a valuable tool for the identification of environmental microbes and higher organisms (mosquitoes, fungi, …) provided the reference spectra are available. During this activity the students will learn the basis of MALDI-TOF MS having the possibility to work with different systems on the market (Bruker, VitekMS, and also different databases SARAMIS, Mabritec).
