Description | The main idea is to learn how to apply the discourse analysis in history: topics and practical application. The discourse analysis is widely used in political science, while the historical analysis of discourse is unrecognized by historians and often neglected. However, the discourse analysis is a useful analytical category if the historian studies such phenomena, such as the nationalities, nation-building, and other contemporary history topics. How do we approach doing historical discourse analysis? It is often used in studying official reports and the press, It offers insights into the reasoning behind social practices and institutional structures. Newspaper articles in particular often reveal the contradictions in the social and political struggles about the practices and policies at stake. Analyzing interview transcripts and observation protocols as discourse is also an important avenue to study practices and the reasoning about them. |
