Kathy Davis' work is an invitation to re-embody emotions. While emotions have long been disembodied by sociology, we ought to take Davis' invitation seriously to question how we can seize and analyze the embodied experience of emotions. This doctoral workshop aims at questioning the ways emotions and the body can be thought together in every stage of our researches.

How do emotions materialize on the fieldwork? How can we concretely seize the ways people interact with and through their bodies? How to analyze theoretically the articulation between the materiality of bodies and the experiences of emotion? Which kind of reflexivity is needed when our own sensitivity is at work? The work we will engage in will thus treat the bodily experience of emotions in their relation to gender, class, race, age, sexuality, and power.

Consignes pour les doctorant·e·s : 

Il est demandé aux doctorant·e·s qui souhaitent faire discuter la place des émotions dans leur thèse de rendre un papier en anglais d'ici le 30 août 2018 à lucile.quere(at)unil(dot)ch, solene.froidevaux(at)unil(dot)ch et alexandra.afsary(at)unil(dot)ch. Il s'agit d'un document de 2 à 8 pages comprenant une rapide présentation de la thèse, de la présence/la prise en compte des émotions dans leur problématique/terrain et d'éventuelles questions/extraits de terrain/parties de chapitre de thèse ou article à soumettre au groupe et à Kathy Davis. Tous les participant·e·s devront avoir lu les papiers avant la tenue du workshop. Chaque papier sera discuté comme suit : 5' de présentation de la part du·de la doctorant·e et 40' de discussion générale. Le workshop sera en anglais.
