Description

This year, we combine the summer school with the workshop so that participants also have the chance to present their own research and to get useful feedback from experienced scholars and fellow students.

All three speakers are established and well-known researchers in their fields. Mike Powell is an expert in organizational economics and has done fascinating work on relational contacts and career spillovers.

Lucia del Carpio's research focus is on theory-driven field experiments in developing countries.

Rustamdjan Hakimov is specialized in laboratory and field experiments on matching markets and market design.

Program

The summer school will start on Tuesday evening (June 27) and will be directly followed by the workshop on Friday (June 30). There will be lectures on Wednesday morning, Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon will be reserved for a social event that includes a short hiking tour, followed by a mountain dinner at a beautiful mountain lake. Please bring your hiking equipment with you (in particular, hiking or trekking shoes and a rain jacket). If you don't like hiking, there will be alternative options.

Before, between and after the lectures, the guest speakers and organizers will be available for personal meetings to discuss research.

Expenses

For students of the CUSO universities (Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel, and Fribourg), IHEID and the University of Bern, expenses for accommodation and meals are covered by the CUSO. Travel expenses will be reimbursed based on a second-class half-fare return Swiss rail ticket between the university to which the student is attached and the location of the activity (also valid for travel in a private car).

Detailed information on the management directives can be found here.

Participation fees (including room and meals) for PhD students affiliated with universities outside of the CUSO network are as follows:

Summer school and workshop: CHF 960 (June 27-30)

Only summer school: CHF 650 (June 27-29)

Only workshop: CHF 220 (June 29); CHF 310 if arrival the night before

External participants also need to cover travel expenses themselves.

Registration

The summer school and workshop are open to all PhD students in economics, management, psychology, and the neurosciences.

We encourage participants to subscribe to both events because the timing foreseen in the program ensures a perfectly smooth transition from the summer school to the workshop. However, it is also possible to only participate in one of the two events.

Please make sure that you sign for all relevant events: in particular, if you want to participate in both events, you need to sign up twice.
