Description | Abnormal Hieratic The cursive Egyptian writing (hieratic) evolves from the 1st millennium BC in the Theban Area into an unusual writing called Abnormal hieratic. It will be overthrown by the demotic in the 7th century BC. Abnormal hieratic is probably the most difficult cursive script from ancient Egypt, but students can learn it. The intended course will show that it is actually easy to do and great fun as well. The audience will receive all course materials (course book, photos and palaeographies) well in advance. Build-up: the first 1 to 1.5 hours will be dealing with a general introduction and a breakdown of the essential knowledge, after which the students will be taken on a whirlwind ride through two abnormal hieratic documents that they have been given to prepare, P. Vienna D 12002 and P. Louvre E 3228 G, from the reigns of Psamtik I and Taharqa, respectively. |
