Approches quali-quantitatives pour la collecte des données numériques et l'étude des phénomènes en ligne

Dans cet atelier, nous considérerons les médias sociaux (à la fois grand public, par ex. Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn et marginaux, par ex. Tumblr, 4chan, Telegram) comme terrains numériques. Nous examinerons divers outils et techniques pour collecter des données numériques, mais nous éviterons d'adopter une approche statistique ou computationnelle. Nous examinerons plutôt comment les informations extraites des plateformes en ligne peuvent être mobilisés dans des projets basés sur le codage manuel des textes, l'analyse sociologique, les entretiens et les méthodes participatives.
Une partie importante de l'atelier sera consacrée à la pratique des outils et des méthodes présentés, mais aucune compétence informatique ou préparation préalable n'est requise. Au cours de l'atelier, nous travaillerons sur un exemple d'étude de cas, tout en discutant de comment les appliquer aux sujets de doctorat des participant.e.s.

Quali-quantitative approaches to collect digital records and study of online phenomena

In this workshop, we will consider social media (both mainstream e.g., Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and marginal e.g.,Tumblr, Telegram) as sites for digital fieldwork. We will consider various tools and techniques to collect digital data, but we will avoid taking the fast track statistical or computational approach. Instead we will consider how the records extracted from online platforms can be mobilized in projects based on close reading, sociological mapping, interviews and participatory methods.
An important part of the workshop will be dedicated to testing of the tools and methods presented, yet no prior computer skills or preparation is needed. During the workshop, we will work on an example case study, while discussing the possible applications to the subjects of the participants PhDs.
We will be guided in our digital fieldwork by Sal Hagen, founder of OILab (https://oilab.eu) and creator of the tool 4CAT (https://4cat.nl), and Axel Meunier (https://medialab.sciencespo.fr/equipe/axel-meunier/) expert in participatory and digital methods.
